Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.
I recently found out than a friend of my brothers relapsed and took his life. I got to spend the day with Chris and my brother when I was in Michigan a few weeks ago.
I’m thankful I had the opportunity to spend some time with Chris. We did some gardening and went swimming…I cooked food for us…we had a nice time…I can see his smile now.
I do know he was getting good help and blessed with the love and support of friends and family. I’m sorry that he could not find the strength, courage, love…whatever he needed to find within himself to just take the next step, the next breath and see through his dis-ease (alcoholism). If you watch the show “Intervention,” you may have seen Chris and may have heard his story. I have not seen the show.
I know he was suffering some that day I spent with him, but I able to see “him”…his innocence, a brother, a divine child of this universe. It surely is one of those situations that you want to make it all better for them, but you can’t. You can just be present and create a safe, supportive, loving space for them, so that they can do their best to make it better for themselves.
Thank you for sending prayers to his family and for his sweet soul.
I just wanted to use World Suicide Prevention Day as a day to honor Chris and others I’ve lost or you may have lost through suicide…and even those that have considered suicide.
